Both Grand Canyon tennis teams will be in action over the next five days at the annual ITA Southwest Regional in California.
The women will compete Thursday to Monday at San Diego while the men will be at Pepperdine from Friday to Tuesday.
The premiere fall event will bring the Lopes together for a 128-player singles draw and 64-player doubles draw across four days. GCU players will match up with opponents from 10 schools, including Pac-12 programs Arizona, Arizona State and USC.
The men last competed three weeks ago at the Arizona Invitational in Tucson, picking up five singles wins with two coming from transfer
Grzegorz Rudnicki. In doubles, fifth-year player
Freddie Grant and sophomore
Jiri Novak won 6-4 against a Northern Arizona pair.
Meanwhile, the women last played at the Beach Tennis Tournament in Long Beach, California. GCU took home two doubles championships, won by
Natasha Puehse and
Santa Strombacha in the top flight and
Autum Prudhomme and
Fabienne Schmidt in the second flight.
GCU sophomore
Taylor Andersen also picked up three singles wins and advanced to her flight final.
