LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Grand Canyon headed on their second road trip of the season as they traveled to Las Vegas this past weekend to take on Mountain West opponent UNLV and Big 12 opponent Utah.Â

Lopes fall 1-4 to UNLV

After an amazing doubles point comeback, the Lopes ultimately fell to the Rebels on Friday.

After losing a point 0-6 on Court 1 GCU had two major comebacks to secure the doubles point.

Duo of freshman
Tim Hohmann and junior
Charlie Pade completed the first doubles point for the Lopes winning 7-5 on Court 3.

Over on Court 2, sophomore duo of
Tristan Berard and
Andreas Loizas won a close match in a tie breaker 7-6 (7-2). This win extended them to a three-game win streak.

Back over in singles the Lopes got swept on Courts 2-5 giving the match to UNLV.

On Court 2Â Marko Maksimovic from the rebels defeated
Andreas Loizas 6-3, 6-1.

Sophomore
Daniel Jankoski battled back after losing 0-6 in the first set. He eventually fell 3-6 in the second set.

Over on Court 5 junior
Brice Patoux lost in straight sets 3-6, 4-6. The Rebels then secured the match on Court 4 where Michael Kouame defeated sophomore
Diordan Macababbad from the Lopes 6-4 in straight sets.
"Tough match vs a really good UNLV team. We have a lot to work on before we see them again in the conference tournament." Said GCU head coach

Lopes defeat Utah 5-2
Â
Grand Canyon secured a 5-2 victory over Utah on Saturday, claiming four singles wins and the doubles point to continue its winning ways.

The Lopes captured the early momentum by taking the doubles point. The tandem of Berard and Loizas earned a 6-3 win at Court. 2 doubles, while
Tim Hohmann and
Charlie Pade followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 to clinch the point.

With that win it marks the 12th time the Lopes have won the doubles point this season.

In singles play, Berard set the tone at the top spot with a three-set win over Dante Teramo, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 moving him to 13-2 on the season in singles.

GCU lost on Courts 2 and 4 making it 2-2 in the total score bringing the match down to the wire.

Macababbad came up clutch for the Lopes defeating Lorenzo Esquici of the Utes 3-6, 6-4, 6-2

Patoux, who has been dominant on Court 5 with only two losses this season, secured the match winning point for Grand Canyon winning 6-4 in straight sets.

GCU's Mountain West Player of the Week this past week,
Charlie Pade, then went on to win Court 6 with the match already clinched defeating Charles Frey 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 1-0 (10-6 in a tiebreaker).

The Lopes have a slight break before they have a double header against Portland State at home next weekend.Â
