LAS VEGAS —
 Grand Canyon headed on its second road trip of the season and earned a split of two matches in Las Vegas this weekend with a loss to Mountain West opponent UNLV and a bounce-back win against Big 12 opponent Utah.Â
UNLV 4, GCU 1Â
After an amazing doubles point comeback, the Lopes ultimately fell 4-1 to the Runnin' Rebels on Friday at UNLV.

After losing 6-0 on Court 1, GCU had two major comeback wins to secure the doubles point.

The Lopes duo of freshman
Tim Hohmann and junior
Charlie Pade completed the first win, 7-5, on Court 3.

On Court 2, sophomore duo of
Tristan Berard and
Andreas Loizas won a close match 7-6 (7-2) to extend their win streak to three matches.

In single, the Lopes got swept on Courts 2-5, giving the match to UNLV.

On Court 2, Marko Maksimovic of UNLVÂ defeated Loizas 6-3, 6-1.

Sophomore
Daniel Jankoski battled back after a 6-0 loss in the first set but fell 6-3 in the second set.

On Court 5, junior
Brice Patoux lost 6-3, 6-4. The Rebels then secured the match on Court 4, where Michael Kouame defeated sophomore
Diordan Macababbad 6-4, 6-4.
"Tough match versus a really good UNLV team," GCU head coach
Ross Wilson said. "We have a lot to work on before we see them again in the conference tournament."
GCU 5, Utah 2
 Grand Canyon secured a 5-2 victory over Utah on Saturday, claiming four singles wins and the doubles point to continue its winning ways.

The Lopes (13-2) captured the early momentum by taking the doubles point. The tandem of Berard and Loizas earned a 6-3 win at Court.2 doubles, while Hohmann and Pade followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 to clinch the point for the Lopes' 12th time in 15 matches this season.

In singles play, Berard set the tone at the top spot with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over Dante Teramo, moving him to 13-2 on the season in singles.

GCU lost on Courts 2 and 4, making bringing the dual match down to the wire with a 2-2 tie.

Macababbad came up clutch for the Lopes, defeating Lorenzo Esquici of the Utes 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Patoux, who has been dominant on Court 5 with only two losses this season, secured the match winning point for Grand Canyon by winning 6-4, 6-4.

Pade, the reigning Mountain West Player of the Week, won Court 6 with the dual match already clinched, defeating Charles Frey 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 1-0 (10-6 tiebreaker).
"I can not say enough about our team's fight and our ability to bounce back when things do not go our way," Wilson said about the gritty win over Utah.Â
The Lopes have a slight break before a doubleheader against Portland State at home next weekend.Â
