ACADEMIC COORDINATORS
The Office of Student-Athlete Development is comprised six academic coordinators that in collaboration with Student Services Counselors (SSCs), advise and support student-athletes in their academic endeavors. They assist student-athletes with degree and class selection, graduation and career planning, time management, goal setting, study skills, and learning strategies. Academic coordinators also monitor NCAA progress toward degree requirements, but student-athletes are encouraged to take responsibility for their own education. They also serve as liaisons between coaches, faculty, sport administrators, and Student Services Counselors (SSCs).

SPECIALIZED LEARNING SERVICESÂ PROGRAM
The Specialized Learning Services (SLS) Program is a comprehensive academic supports program that identifies and provides student-athletes with appropriate academic accommodations, support, and resources. The SLS program takes a proactive approach in collaboration with Student Disability Services (SDS), Office of Student Care, and Sports Medicine.
Learning Specialists - Provide one-to-one support to student-athletes to expand their academic skills and further develop essential college-level learning modalities. Any student-athlete with a documented learning difference or educational-impacting diagnosis will have access to a Learning Specialist to develop an individual academic success plan in collaboration with the student-athlete’s Academic Coordinator to ensure the student’s specific academic needs are met.
Academic Mentors - Specialize in assisting student-athletes develop organization, time management, and self-advocacy skills through one-on-one meetings. Areas of focus include time management, reading comprehension, writing, note taking, test taking, self-advocacy skills, and critical thinking strategies.
Tutorial Services - In collaboration with the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), student-athletes have access to subject specific support through peer-to-peer Learning Advocates (LEADs).

LOPES FOR LIFE PROGRAM
The Lopes for Life program is dedicated to the holistic development of each GCU student-athlete. Lopes for Life provides comprehensive programming that focuses on academic achievement, career readiness, personal development, and community engagement while integrating spiritual growth. In alignment with the 5 C’s, Community, Collaboration, Continuous Improvement, Christian Leadership, and Championships, Lopes for Life strives to equip each student-athlete with the knowledge, experiences, and skills they need to succeed while at GCU and in life after college.

STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAAC)
The Grand Canyon University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is composed of two representatives from each NCAA Division I school-sponsored team. These individuals are selected by their coach and serve as the collective voice of the student-athletes. They provide input and feedback on the overall experience of student-athletes at GCU, and they have the unique leadership opportunity to serve as the liaison between their teams, athletic administration, the WAC, and the NCAA. Â
