LOGAN, Utah — After winning eight of its previous 10 dual matches, Grand Canyon fell in its second consecutive Mountain West match with a 4-1 loss at Utah State on Saturday.
In doubles play, Lopes freshman
Tim Hohmann and sophomore
Charlie Pade suffered only their third loss of the season on Court 3.
Utah State secured the doubles point on Court 2 with GCU sophomore
Daniel Jankoski and junior
Brice Patoux losing to Badon Jean-Baptiste and Dimitri Goubin 6-4.
The Lopes started off singles play with a strong win from Pade, the Australian who defeated Jakub Medved 6-1, 6-3.
The Aggies then took a Court 1 win over Lopes sophomore
Tristan Berard, who is14-3 on the season.
On Court 2, GCU sophomore
Diordan Macababbad suffered a 6-0 defeat in the first set but battled back in the second set before losing 6-4.
Following a Court 3 loss for sophomore
Andreas Loizas, the Aggies clinched the dual win and at least a share of the Mountain West regular-season championship.
The Lopes head to San Diego State on April 11 to take on the Aztecs.
