Fresh off a historic season that included a program-record six top-three finishes during the spring campaign, Grand Canyon women's golf head coach
Lauren Giesecke bolstered her roster by adding Arizona native Leighton Shostedfor next season.

A graduate of Mountain View High School in nearby Mesa, Shosted spent the past two seasons at Utah Valley, where she received All-WAC second-team accolades as a freshman.

"We are so excited to have Leighton join the GCU family!" said Giesecke. "Leighton has always been a top competitor in conference and a very talented junior player in Arizona. I know she is excited to be back in her home state and to be a Lope!"

Shosted enters GCU with a career 74.93 scoring average and set the single-season Utah Valley scoring record with a 74.19 last season. She recorded eight rounds of par or better her sophomore year with 83 birdies and 3 eagles in 26 rounds played.

Shosted had four top-15 finishes last season, including a third-place outing at the BYU Riverside Classic where she shot even par. She also registered four top-five placements during her freshman year, including an individual title at the UTRGV Invitational. During her time at Utah Valley, she was named captain of the 2022-23 team and a Wolverine Way Ambassador for the university.

GCU returns four players from its spring starting five for 2023-24. The Lopes won two team titles during the spring stretch and finished second twice.
