LITCHFIELD PARK – Grand Canyon finished eighth out of 14 teams in the Bell Bank Pay It Forward Collegiate on Tuesday at Wigwam Golf Club.
GCU shot 14 over par to finish inside the top eight in each of its last three tournaments.
South Florida won the event at 26 under, followed by Florida Gulf Coast (16 under) and Montana State (14 under).
GCU freshman
Alexis Vakasiuola extended her streak of top-10 finishes to four by placing seventh this week with a 4-under card. Vakasiuola shot a 2-under final round with four birdies, going 2 under over her last seven holes.
The two-time Mountain West Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week totaled 14 birdies, tying for seventh most among the field's 82 golfers. She also shot even on par-3 holes to tie for sixth best.
Lopes junior
Jess Haines shot 1 over Tuesday to finish 3 over, good for 27th place. Like Vakasiuola, Haines ended her round on a high note by going 3 under over her final 10 holes.
GCU freshman
Rosie Maguire placed 36th and nearly had the shot of the tournament on the par-3 17th. Her tee shot from 144 yards out rolled back toward the pin and missed the cup by mere inches. She tapped in for birdie, one of two straight for her on the back nine.
Also for the Lopes, junior
Lena Tremouille finished 49th at 10 over while freshman
Honor Johnson concluded at 15 over in 66th.
GCU's individual entries were freshman
Clara Duerr (51st) and sophomore
Matilda Samervong (66th).
The squad resumes action in two weeks for the final regular-season tournament, the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa. The Mountain West Championship follows April 21-23 in Rancho Mirage, California, at the Mission Hills Country Club.
