LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Grand Canyon completed the third and final round of the Bell Bank Pay It Forward Collegiate Tuesday afternoon at the Wigwam Golf Club, finishing eighth out of 14 schools.
GCU shot 14 over in total and has finished inside the top eight in each of its last three tournaments played.
South Florida won the event at 26 under, followed by Florida Gulf Coast (16 under) and Montana State (14 under).
Freshman
Alexis Vakasiuola extended her streak of top 10 finishes, moving the number to four as she placed seventh with a 4 under card. Vakasiuola shot a 2 under final round with four birdies, going 2 under over her last seven holes played.
The two-time Mountain West Player and Freshman of the Week this spring totaled 14 birdies, tied for seventh most among the 82 golfers in the field. She also shot an even card on par 3 holes, tied for sixth best.
Junior
Jess Haines shot 1 over Tuesday to finish 3 over in total, good for 27th. Like Vakasiuola, Haines ended her round on a high note by going 3 under over her final 10 holes played.
Freshman
Rosie Maguire placed 36th and nearly had the shot of the tournament on the par 3, 17th. Her tee shot from 144 yards out rolled back toward the pin and missed the cup by mere inches. She tapped in for birdie, one of two straight on the back nine.
Junior
Lena Tremouille finished 49th at 10 over while
Honor Johnson concluded at 15 over in 66th.
Individuals in freshman
Clara Duerr and sophomore
Matilda Samervong placed 51st and 66th, respectively.
The squad resumes action in two weeks for the final regular season tournament of the spring at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa. The Mountain West Championship follows April 21-23 in Rancho Mirage, California, at the Mission Hills CC.
