UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Grand Canyon women's golf began the 2026-27 season at Chambers Bay Golf Club in the Pacific northwest, finishing three rounds at the Leadership & Design Invitational co-hosted by Washington and Seattle U.
The tournament was the first of three straight in the Evergreen State, traveling to Spokane next week and Tacoma Oct. 5-6.
Sophomore
Alexis Vakasiuola, the reigning Mountain West Freshman of the Year, finished her final round with eight birdies and a 1 under, 71, to tie for 23rd overall. The AZ native bounced back from a 5 over first round with an even second and 1 under third, going 4 over in total.
Sophomore Clara Dürr placed next for GCU, shooting 1 over Tuesday for a 14 over total. She tied for 49th and had four birdies over her final 18 holes.
Senior
Jess Haines (T-75th) and freshman
Allira Shingles (88th) completed the starting four for the Lopes. Junior
Allie Justiz began the tournament and shot 1 over in the first round before withdrawing.
The Lopes placed 17th overall. Vakasiuola finished fifth among all golfers with 12 total birdies.
The Kalispel Invitational, hosted by Gonzaga, is up next for GCU from Sept. 21-22.
