Grand Canyon women's golf head coach
Brent Nicoson has earned one of the highest honors in collegiate golf, an induction into the Women's Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Nicoson, who has been at the helm of GCU's women's golf program since 2024, is a three-time NCAA Division II National Champion with numerous accolades to his resume for both him and his players.
At GCU, Nicoson's squads have finished in the top three in eight tournaments since the fall of 2024 with three tournament victories. This season alone, Nicoson's Lopes have earned back-to-back top three placements in the early stages of the 2026-27 campaign.
He has coached three All-Conference players in two seasons at GCU, including Calynne Rosholt and Anci Dy, the latter aiding him to his third national championship while at UIndy. Last season saw the emergence of
Alexis Vakasiuola, a current sophomore who won Mountain West Freshman of the Year, broke the program's single season scoring record and was the first Lope to compete in the NCAA Regional Tournament since 2022.
A UIndy alum and former player on the men's golf team, Nicoson began his career in 2006-07 with his alma mater, coaching the men's side to an impressive 139-23-6 in his first season. He joined on to coach both the men's and women's sides in 2011-12, and in totality, claimed 10 GLVC Conference Championships and was named Golf Pride National Coach of the Year in 2018.
The 2015 was the first of three National Championships for Nicoson, whose UIndy squad was the first school outside the state of Florida to win the NCAA Division II National Championship.
He later won the titles in 2018 and 2024, with the most recent featuring
Jess Haines, who is a current senior on the GCU squad.
With 54 WGCA All-American Scholars, 63 All-Conference players, eight individual conference champions and five NCAA Individual Regional champions, Nicoson will be honored in Las Vegas, Nevada, December 7, 2026.
Nicoson attended last year's ceremony as a guest, supporting his former player Pilar Echeverria who won 2018 PING National Player of the Year. Now, he will be honored among a class that includes Amy Bond (Florida State), Kenny Trapp (Dallas Baptist) and Azahara Munoz (Arizona State).
