GCU finishes 2nd out of 14 schools in Spokane
SPOKANE, Wash. – Grand Canyon women's golf rebounded from its first Washington tournament with a second place showing at the Kalispel Invitational at the Kalispel Golf and Country Club Tuesday, totaling four top 25 finishers and the best third round finish of the entire field.
It's second of third straight in the Evergreen State, GCU carded an 11 over total, two more than Mountain West opponent Fresno State in third. Boise State won the 14-team tournament at 3 under par.
Leading the Lopes was sophomore Rosie Maguire, who competed in her first tournament of the 2026-27 season. The Scotland native shot 71/75/70 with nine birdies, three of which came in her final round after a 2 under, 70, that saw only one bogey and 14 pars.
Maguire tied for fifth at even par, the best finish this season by a Lope.
The duo of senior Jess Haines and sophomore Alexis Vakasiuola tied for 15th at 4 over. Haines carded a 1 under final round, tallying four birdies to just one bogey Tuesday. After a first round 77, Vakasiuola rebounded with rounds of 71 (1 under) and 72 (even par), scoring seven birdies in that span.
The top 15 is the second this season for Vakasiuola and the first for Haines.
Competing in her second straight tournament, sophomore Clara Dürr shot even par in Tuesday's final round and tied for 23rd at 7 over. Dürr had eight birdies in total, six of which came on the back nine during her play.
It is her personal best finish as a member of the Lopes dating back to last season.
Freshman Gianna Singh tied for 32nd at 9 over in her first collegiate tournament, while classmate Allira Shingles tied for 53rd (15 over) as an individualist.
A tough playing course, the Lopes averaged 4.11 on par 4 holes (third best) and 5.04 on par 5 holes (T-2nd best). The 43 birdies as a team tied with Boise State for most in the field, while the 53 bogeys were third fewest.
GCU takes a week off before returning to action October 5-6 in the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational in Tacoma, Washington.
