TUCSON – Grand Canyon women's golf completed its first tournament of the spring campaign Tuesday afternoon in Tucson, Arizona, completing the Thunderbird Intercollegiate at Tucson Country Club.
GCU finished 14th overall, with No. 1 Stanford winning at 16 under, the only team to finish under par over two days. No. 21 Baylor placed second at 19 over followed by host school No. 22 Arizona at 20 over.
FINAL RESULTS
The field consisted of seven teams in the Clippd Scoreboard top 50 rankings, five of which were in the top 25.
Junior
Lena Tremouille finished best for the Lopes in 34th, carding a 13 over total. Tremouille had the Lopes' second eagle of the tournament on the par 4, 16th hole, with GCU being one of four teams to have multiple players to score an eagle over the three rounds (Arizona, Stanford, Colorado).
Freshman
Rosie Maguire joined Tremouille in the eagle department with hers coming on the par 5, 13th Monday. Maguire tied for 56th along with junior
Jess Haines, who shot 4 over in the third and final round.
Freshman
Honor Johnson finished 66th while freshman
Alexis Vakasiuola placed 68th. Both players tied for 14th among the field with 34 pars each for their tournaments.
GCU takes little time off and is back on the course this weekend in Palm Desert, California, for the Long Beach State Invitational. The tournament in California is the only one this season outside the state of Arizona. First round action begins Saturday, February 14.
