TUCSON – Grand Canyon women's golf completed its first tournament of the spring campaign Tuesday in Tucson, Arizona, where it was a loaded Thunderbird Intercollegiate field at Tucson Country Club.
GCU finished 14th with No. 1 Stanford winning at 16 under par, the tournament's only three-round team score below par. No. 21 Baylor placed second at 19 over, followed by host No. 22 Arizona at 20 over.
FINAL RESULTS
The field consisted of seven teams in the Clippd Scoreboard top 50, five of which were in the top 25.
Junior
Lena Tremouille finished highest among GCU golfers in 34th place, carding a 13-over total. Tremouille had the Lopes' second eagle of the tournament on the par-4 16th hole, with GCU being one of four teams to have multiple players score an eagle over the three rounds (Arizona, Stanford, Colorado).
Lopes freshman
Rosie Maguire joined Tremouille in the eagle department with hers coming on the par-5 13th hole Monday. Maguire tied for 56th along with junior teammate
Jess Haines, who shot 4 over in the third and final round.
GCU freshman
Honor Johnson finished 66th while freshman teammate
Alexis Vakasiuola placed 68th. Both players tied for 14th among the field with 34 pars each.
The Lopes are back on the course this weekend in Palm Desert, California, for the Long Beach State Invitational. The tournament is GCU's only event this spring outside Arizona. First-round action begins Saturday.
