Luafalealo earns WAC weekly award

Runner-up finish at Cowgirl Classic leads Lopes
Grand Canyon freshman golfer Lani Luafalealo was named WAC Golfer of the Week after finishing as runner-up at the Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa.
Luafalealo shot 3 under par over three rounds at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club to take second in a 114-player field. After an opening round of 1-under-par 71, the Honolulu native used a 68 (4 under par) to move up the leaderboard in her second round Monday. She finished the tournament just two shots back and led the Lopes to a third-place team finish.
Luafalealo owns the second-best stroke average in the WAC at 74.08.
She becomes the fourth Lope to win the weekly award. Senior Siripatsorn Patchana (Feb. 17), sophomore Carmen Belmonte (March 17) and junior Payton Fehringer (March 24) also have won the weekly conference award.
GCU is back in action on Sunday and Monday at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
