The Grand Canyon tennis teams earned WAC weekly awards with sophomore

Jonathan Da Silva being named WAC Singles Player of the Week.
Puehse went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles position last week, pushing her winning streak to six with a pair of wins over Idaho State at home. In the team's first 5-2 win over the Bengals on Tuesday, Pueshe made quick work of Idaho State's Hristina Cvetkovic with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Idaho State shifted its lineup in an another dual on Wednesday. Puehse produced another straight-set win, beating Idaho State's Alexandro Arkhipov 6-0, 6-2 to help a second straight 5-2 team win.
Da Silva went 3-0 last week in singles and was a vital part of the Lopes' 2-0 start in conference play. Against Idaho State, Da Silva started his week Tuesday at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Gary Rendek as the Lopes dropped a 4-3 match.
With the start of WAC play against Chicago State on Friday, Da Silva moved up to No. 4 and played just as well. He was the first to finish in singles with a 6-0, 6-1 over Jakub Zamorski, as the Lopes won 6-1. Against New Mexico State on Sunday at No. 4, Da Silva trailed 4-1 against the Aggies' Jordy Visser but regrouped and won 11 of the final 12 games for a 6-4, 6-1 victory. GCU defeated the Aggies 5-2 to move to a tie for first place in the WAC.
Da Silva and the men's team will be off this week, but Puehse and the women's team will be back in action as the Lopes look to build on their 2-0 start in conference play. GCU will face UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday and Seattle U on Friday in Edinburg, Texas.
