STOCKTON, Calif. — The Grand Canyon men's tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss at Pacific on Sunday.
Originally scheduled for Saturday at Stanford, the dual became a true road match for the Lopes in Stockton on Sunday. Pacific (1-4) used the home-court advantage to take the doubles point and three singles matches for the win.
In doubles, the Tigers won the point with victories on the bottom two courts. GCU senior
Valentin Lang and junior
Freddie Grant were defeated 6-3 while Lopes senior
Justin Cvitanovic and freshman
David Weber lost a close 7-5 match at No. 3. GCU senior
Lorenzo Fucile's and freshman
Can Franke's match at No. 1 was stopped in a tiebreaker with the score at 6-6.
GCU earned two singles wins, one of them coming from Cvitanovic, who played his first singles match in more than a year after coming back from an ACL injury last season.
Cvitanovic had played in three doubles matches so far this season. In his first singles match, he defeated Pacific's John Horoz Garner 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday.
The other point for GCU (0-10) came from Lang, the fellow Frenchman who won in straight sets at No. 2 for his second win of the season.
Pacific won three singles matches in straight sets to clinch the win while Fucile's match at No. 1 was left unfinished in the third set with the GCU senior leading 4-1.
The Lopes will enjoy next week off and return to action in Waco, Texas, with matches against No. 12 Baylor and Omaha on Feb. 22 and 23, respectively.
