Live Stats PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon women's golf team is back on the road for its third tournament of the Fall as the Antelopes are set to compete in the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate. The tournament will be hosted by Wyoming but will take place at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
"We are very excited about this weekend," head coach Lauren Giesecke said. "We learned a lot from the Cougar Cup and we have made some little changes leading into this weekend."
The Lopes are just one of two teams from the Western Athletic Conference that will be competing in the tournament joining Cal State Bakersfield. The tournament will consist of 12 teams throughout the West Coast and competing for GCU this weekend is Deanna Salvatori, Samantha Barker, Kylie Fong, Charatta Thongbai, Amy Ruelas and Julia Shin. Salvatori is coming off an eighth place finish at the Washington State Cougar Cup in Pullman, Wash. where she ended the tournament with a +3 after three rounds.
GCU has finished in eighth place in its first two tournaments of the Fall, first at the Hobble Creek Invitational and then at the Cougar Cup. Out of the 12 teams participating in the event, eight of the schools are from the state of California and the state of Arizona will bring two schools, joining Grand Canyon is Northern Arizona.
"This will be our third tournament together and we are starting to get into a groove," Giesecke said. "Deanna Salvatori played in this tournament last year so she should have a great deal of confidence in her game right now."
The two-day tournament will begin on Saturday, Sept. 26.
