PHOENIX – For just the second time this season, Grand Canyon wrestling will be at home as they host Northern Illinois. This will be the first of three straight matches the Antelopes will host at GCU Arena before heading back on the road.
The last time the Lopes were in action was last Sunday, Dec. 13, in Fairfax, Va. When the Lopes competed in the Mason Duals hosted by George Mason. Grand Canyon faced Clarion, George Mason and the No. 5 team in the country, North Carolina State. Despite going 0-3 in the open,
Kenny Moore shined throughout the day, going a perfect 3-0 and overall, GCU was able to earn eight victories in the tournament. Also picking up wins was
Trayton Libolt,
Juaquin Olivas and
Blake Monty against Clarion and against George Mason
Austin Gaun and Libolt would earn victories.
SCOUTING NORTHERN ILLINOISThe Huskies are 2-3 this season and have competed in just three tournaments this season including at the EMU Duals, Michigan State Open and at the Lindenwood Open. Grand Canyon and Northern Illinois have faced a common opponent this season in Clarion; GCU fell to the Golden Eagles 26-13 and NIU was able to defeat Clarion 34-11. The Huskies are coming off a 39-3 loss at home to Central Michigan.
