BAKERSFIELD – The Grand Canyon wrestling team closed out its weekend in California with a matchup against CSU Bakersfield. GCU were able to come away with three individual victories but GCU fell to the Roadrunners 28-9.
The Lopes struggled out of the gates but
Kenny Moore was able to stop the bleeding. Moore was able to take down Jesus Ambriz 14-9 to give GCU its first three points of the day. Moore has now won six of his last seven matches. The freshman continues to lead GCU this season in victories recording his 14
th victory of the year.
Austin Gaun capped off his perfect 2-0 weekend in California at 184-pounds with GCU's second victory against CSUB. Gaun went up against Dylan Bollinger and pulled out a tight 8-6 victory for his ninth victory of the season.
For GCU's final victory of the day, GCU's hottest wrestler,
Daniel Chaid, continued his hot streak with a win over Matt Williams. To record his 11
th straight win Chaid would defeat Williams in a 7-3 decision to give GCU nine points on the day.
Grand Canyon will return home next week to wrestle at GCU Arena for the final time this season. The Lopes will host North Dakota State on Sunday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m.
