Austin Gaun and
Daniel Chaid, the Lopes were narrowly defeated by George Mason 18-13 to finish runner-up in their pool.
It was the second time this season that GCU matched up against George Mason, falling to the Patriots 22-9 on Dec. 13 in Fairfax, Va. The Lopes were able to narrow the margin in Saturday's loss, dropping the match by just five.
Monty, Gaun and Chaid all claimed wins over their opponents via decisions, while Moore was the biggest point-earner of the day for Grand Canyon with a 17-3 major decision victory.
At the Virginia Duals as a whole, Grand Canyon finished 1-3 as a team with losses to Chattanooga and Rider before defeating The Citadel yesterday.
At the heavyweight spot, Chaid finished a perfect 4-0 through the tournament for the Lopes. Chaid claimed three matches via decision (Chattanooga, Rider, George Mason) and one by major decision (The Citadel). The redshirt sophomore has now won six consecutive matches and improves to 6-2 on the year.
The Lopes now turn their attention to Air Force, their next opponent. Grand Canyon will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. for a dual with the Falcons on Sunday, Jan. 17.
