CLEVELAND – To close out the 2015-16 season, the Grand Canyon wrestling team ended with an exclamation point, crowning three All-Americans. At the National Collegiate Open, Trayton Libolt and Austin Gaun earned All-American honors while Uzo Owuama won the National Collegiate Open title at 141-pounds.
Owuama was crowned champion after defeating Michael Hayes from Old Dominion. Owuama finished ahead of wrestlers from Rutgers, Kent State, Ohio and American. Libolt capped off an impressive freshman season with a third place finish at 125-pounds. Libolt took down Mitch Brown from Utah Valley, finishing right behind Buffalo and Old Dominion.
The final wrestler earning All-American honors was Gaun in the 184-pound contest. Like Libolt, Gaun too finished in third place, defeating Wesley Maskill from Big Ten member, Michigan State. Gaun finished behind Iowa State's Carson Powell and champion, Jack Wedholm, from Army West Point.
