The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team shot a 40-over 328 today and is in fifth place at the Sonoma State Women’s Spring Invitational at the Foxtail North Course in Rohnert Park, Calif.
Newman University leads the invitational with a 19-over 307. Cal State San Marcos sits in second with a 30-over 318. Academy of Art is in third (325) and Cal State Monterey Bay holds fourth (326).
The scores reported were for the opening 18 holes, but all teams played 27 holes today. The final two rounds will be reported tomorrow at the conclusion of play.
Charlotte Jaengkit is the highest placed Antelope and is in a tie for eighth after her 7-over 79. She finished with 13 pars over the 18 holes. Newman’s Megan Birdsey leads the invitational with an even par 72.
GCU’s
Phoeba Cipa is tied for 17
th (81), while teammate
Eryn Olson is one shot back with an 82.
The second and third rounds will get underway tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
