The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team is in fifth after the first round of the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz. The tournament is being contested at the Oak Creek Country Club and is being contested by a field that features 19 of 21 schools from the Division I ranks.
The Antelopes shot a 20-over 308 this afternoon and are only five shots back of leader Cal State Northridge (303). Toledo and Southern Utah are tied for second (304), while Weber State is in fourth with a 305.
GCU’s
Charlotte Jaengkit and
Emily Kaye each posted a 1-over 73 and sit in a tie for 6
th after 18 holes. Both had three birdies on the day.
Weber State’s Kelsey Chugg is the individual leader with a 1-under 71.
Kelcey Tate is currently the highest placed Antelope after carding an even-par 72. She is playing the tournament as an individual and is not included in the GCU team results.
The final round of the Red Rocks Invitational will be played tomorrow on the Par-72 Oak Creek course. The Antelopes have a first and second place finish to date this spring season.
