The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team won their third-straight tournament, today taking home first place in the Otter Invitational at the Black Horse Golf Club in Seaside, Calif. The Antelopes shot a 54-hole total of 55-over 919, to finish three strokes ahead of second-place and host Cal State Monterey Bay (922).
Grand Canyon entered the eight-team tournament as the highest ranked team according to the Golfstat NCAA Division II Head-to-Head rankings in the No. 3 spot and is currently ranked No. 7 in the Golfworld/National Golf Coaches Association Top-25 Coaches Poll released March 28.
GCU’s
Tiffany Hewetson took second after finishing with an 11-over 227. She was three shots behind individual winner, Courtney Soekland, of CSU Monterey Bay. Hewetson finished the invitational with eight birdies, including three today. She posted a final round 75, her best score during the two-day event.
Brittany Penny came in third place after finishing with a 12-over 228.
Ashley Mooney was one stroke behind Penny (229) and finished in a three-way tie for fourth.
Chico State (958), Academy of Art (960) and Cal State San Marcos (964) rounded out the top-five on the leaderboard.
The ‘Lopes are now off until they host the NCAA West Regional from May 6-8 on the Heritage Red Course at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield, Ariz.
