'Lopes Add High School Standouts Tate, Olson

The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team announced the signing of incoming freshmen Kelcey Tate and Eryn Olson to National Letters of Intent for the 2011-12 season.
Tate of Cibola High School in Albuquerque, N.M. was the state champion in 2010 and placed second at the state finals in 2008 and 2009. She was medalist at the Albuquerque Metro City Championship in 2010 and 2011. Tate earned district champion honors in 2009 and 2011. In addition to her athletic achievements, Tate earned academic all-district honors all four years at Cibola.
“Kelcey is a seasoned tournament competitor who is a solid ball striker and has a great short game,” said head coach Don Powers. “She is a bright student and an accomplished player. I am excited to have her join our team.”
Olson of Thomas Jefferson High School in Bloomington, Minn. was a four-time all-conference member. As a junior she finished second in the conference and 26th in the state. In her final season at Thomas Jefferson, Olson placed fourth in the conference, 23rd in the state, and earned all-academic honors.
“Eryn is a dynamic golfer and has proven her abilities in high school. I admire her desire to become better and with the opportunity to play golf year-round in Arizona I think she will become a solid contributor to the team.”
