Shoots 5-over-par 76 Thursday
MESA – Grand Canyon University junior Georgina Dunn (Peterborough, England , King's School) is tied for 11th after two rounds of the four-round NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships at Longbow Golf Club Thursday.
Dunn shot 5-over-par 76, one stroke better than her first round score. She is 11-over-par for the tournament.
Similar to her first round, Dunn started and finished strong.
At even-par through eight holes, Dunn ended her second round with a birdie and par, helping overcome a rough section that saw her go through a stretch of six bogeys in eight holes.
Her birdies on No. 4 and No. 17 were both par 4 holes.
“It was kind of frustrating,” said Dunn of her second round. “I started off well again and lost a bit in the middle, but it’s good to have a one stroke improvement.
“A top 10 (finish) would be amazing.”
Dunn tees off on No. 1 at 7:40 a.m. for Friday’s third round.
Dunn is only the second GCU women’s golfer to compete in the national championships. Jessica McKay finished 26th in 2008.
Top-ranked Nova Southeastern is in total command of the team competition.
The defending national champions shot 1-over-par 285 and have a two-day total of 583 (+15). The Sharks hold a 29-stroke lead over second-place Rollins. The third-ranked Tars equaled their Wednesday total with a round of 306.
Individual leader Maria Luz Besio, of Newberry College, followed up an even-par 71 on Wednesday with a 3-under-par 68. She leads Nova Southeastern’s Sandra Changkija by two shots.
