Jeff Guy was named head coach of the Grand Canyon University lacrosse team in September 2010. A graduate assistant and defensive coordinator for the GCU lacrosse team from 2007-09, he replaced Adam Marshall, who resigned after guiding the program for its first three seasons.
A Salisbury, Conn. native, Guy played lacrosse at Springfield University in Massachusetts, was the head lacrosse coach at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale from July 2009-July 2010, and has been the director and head coach of the Arizona Monsoon lacrosse club, a select travel team comprised of high school players from metro Phoenix, since August 2009.
He was the head coach of the Arizona Starz, another Phoenix area high school all-star team, from 2005-08. He also was the head lacrosse coach at Notre Dame Prep in Scottsdale in 2007 after serving as an assistant coach there the previous season.
Guy graduated in 2000 from Housatonic Valley High School in Salisbury, where he was a captain of the football, hockey and lacrosse teams and earned all-state honors in football and all-conference recognition in hockey. In 2001, he attended Bridgton Academy in Maine, where he played football and lacrosse under legendary head lacrosse coach Mike Fuller. He helped lead the Wolverines to a 16-1 season in 2001, only to lose to national junior-college champion Nassau Community College.
In 2002, he helped lead Springfield’s lacrosse team to an East Coast Athletic Conference championship as a midfielder. The following spring, he transferred to the University of Delaware. He had a series of injuries that ended his playing career, but he graduated from Delaware in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and a minor in coaching science.
While at Delaware, he spent a season as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Kennett High School in Pennsylvania. In 2006, he was the offensive and defensive coordinator at Notre Dame Prep before taking over as head coach the next year.
In fall 2007, he started his collegiate coaching career at GCU, an NCAA Division II school. He remained there until 2009. In fall 2009, he earned a master’s of science degree in leadership from GCU. In 2010, he was at Chaparral, where he produced five all-state players.
Guy also has been active at the club level. His most recent club team, the Monsoon, has played in tournaments such as the Fall Brawl at the University of Delaware and the Ultimate Performance Lacrosse Shootout in Annapolis, Md.
