No. 12 Grand Canyon (8-5) lost 13-12 in double-overtime to No. 6 UC Santa Barbara in the semifinals of the Division I Southwestern Lacrosse Conference Tournament in San Diego Friday.
Trailing 12-9 with less than three minutes remaining, GCU scored at 2:28, 1:41 and :45 to force overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, GCU won the opening faceoff, but weren’t able to score, UCSB scored after a GCU turnover to win the game.
Grand Canyon led 5-3 after the first quarter and 7-6 at halftime.
Dean Fairall and
Carson Barton had three goals each. Fairall added three assists and Barton had one.
Drew Dziadyk scored two goals and added an assist.
Jason Klein had a pair of assists.
Chris McWilliams,
Cody Wagner,
Geoff Barnes and
Dakota Garant each had a goal.
Nick Castelli added an assist.
AJ Wilkerson had 17 saves, while
Ron Hamwey,
Dominique Turner and
Kris Holland combined to go 16-for-21 on faceoffs.
