Grand Canyon will head north for the Friday Night Axe 'Em Open at Northern Arizona's Walkup Skydome.
It's the second meet of the season for the Lopes, but the first large meet with GCU bringing over 90 student-athletes to the competition.
Field events will begin at 1 p.m. and running events will begin at 3 p.m.
"We all are very excited for our 2025 indoor season to begin and to compete as a complete team," GCU head coach Tom Flood said. "We had an impressive December opener in Spokane but are now thrilled to have a chance to watch everyone compete this Friday at NAU. It will give a true indication of exactly where were at in our training."
GCU had around 30 athletes compete in the Spokane Invitational on Dec. 14 to open the season. But triple that amount will make the two-hour journey up Interstate 17 for Friday's meet.
In that season-opening meet, Flood said GCU compiled "the best first meet in our program's storied history by far." Several newcomers debuted to impressive first performances in GCU colors, but a long list of experienced returners also balanced out an all-around effort.
"We've had outstanding practices this fall, in all event areas, and will once again have very well-balanced teams," Flood said. "As always with our first indoor meet, we will try and shake off a little holiday rust."
Twenty-seven days have elapsed since GCU's last meet, the only extended gap of the indoor season. Beginning with the Friday Night Axe 'Em Open, GCU will be competing every weekend all the way through the Feb. 28 WAC Indoor Championships in Spokane.
"We look to begin our run to defend both our women's team WAC indoor title and get back to our winning ways with the men's team in Spokane this year," Flood said. "As always, we will rely on our veterans' leadership and are also very excited to watch all of our super-talented newcomers compete."
The women claimed the 2024 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, their sixth as a program. The men had their seven-year title streak come to a halt, though they later reclaimed WAC supremacy in the outdoor season.
"Again this year, if both of our teams stay healthy and hungry, we will have an excellent chance for both teams to be standing on the top of the WAC podium again this year," Flood said.
Friday marks the first of four meets in Flagstaff. GCU will also compete in Albuquerque three times and Spokane twice, including the WAC Indoor Championships.
