Senior Miguel Rosario and graduate
Taryn Burkett punched their tickets to Eugene Oregon at NCAA West Regionals in Fayetteville Arkansas.
After just missing to qualify in the 100-meter, Miguel left no doubt in the 200-meter finishing third overall (20.21). The Mountain West Champion was the first Lope to secure a spot at Nationals with his finish.
On Saturday Burkett had a top 10 showing in the triple jump finishing 8
th overall. With a jump of 13.52 meters (44 feet 4.25 inches) the Mountain West Championship will be heading to Eugene as well to compete in Nationals.
"I am so proud of Miguel and Taryn, they have both had amazing seasons" said GCU head coach Tom Flood. "I can't wait to see what he does in Eugene."
When asked about Burket's impact Flood said, "GCU's Grace Grit Glory is defined by Taryn, the fifth-year graduate will tell you she didn't have a great night on the runway on Saturday but still took care of business and qualified. She is ready to surprise people at NCAA."
The Lopes had strong showings in many of the sprints and mid distance races as well with senior
Ben Stratman (400 meter, 46.70), senior
Germain Lemaitre (800 meter, 1:48.99), senior
Taliyah Booker (400 meter, 54.83). The men's 4x100 team also finished 17
th in a time of 39.64
Junior
Weston Means and sophomore
Blake Heller led the way in jumps with Means finishing 24
th in the high jump (2.07 meters) and Heller finishing 21
st in the long jump (7.45m)
Over in pole vault, junior
Eva Lowder had a top 15 finish with a mark of 4.33 meters (14 feet, 2.5 inches).
"We will say goodbye to several talented seniors Justin, Conner, Ben, Germain, Atena, Amanda, and Taryn and I would like to thank them for their wonderful service to GCU Track and Field," Said Flood.
"While I can never replace anyone, I've got some tough work to do this summer!"
Burkett and Rosario will head to Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA National Championships on June 10
th after a great season and Regional showing.
