The Grand Canyon women's golf team will compete in its third tournament over a two-week stretch when the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic starts Monday in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Â
The two-day tournament will be held at the Ptarmigan Golf and Country Club, with two rounds on Monday and the third and final round on Tuesday morning.
Â
Under first-year head coach
Brent Nicoson, the Lopes finished in the top five in each of its first two tournaments this season, including a second-place outing at the Leadership and Golf Invitational last week at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
Â
GCU is one of 11 teams participating this week, joining Long Beach State, San Diego State, Colorado, Cal Poly, Nevada, Washington State, Cal State Fullerton, UC Davis and host school Colorado State.
Â
The Lopes' starting lineup will consist of graduate
Calynne Rosholt, seniors
Alyzzah Vakasiuola and
Anci Dy, and sophomores
Brenna Preap and
Jess Haines.
Rosholt has placed in the top 10 twice this season and was one of 10 golfers in a 90-player field to go under par in last week's tournament at Chambers Bay. Vakasiuola, Dy and Preap all finished in the top 25 last week with Haines, who is back in the starting lineup, finishing 44th as an individual.
Â
GCU last competed in the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic in September of 2022, placing fifth out of 11 schools.
