MISSOULA, Mont. – The Grand Canyon men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 4-0 shutout over Eastern Washington in a neutral-site match Saturday.
The Lopes (1-1) clinched the doubles point and picked up three singles wins. Doubles was clinched with a 6-0 win by graduate
Gerhard Sullwald and sophomore
David Wekesa at the top court. Despite the Eagles (0-3) winning at Court 2, the Lopes countered with a hard-fought, 7-5 win at Court 3 by graduate
Pablo Carretero Salvador and sophomore
Paolo Rosati.
Up 1-0, the Lopes pushed their advantage in singles, winning the first set on five of the six courts. Salvador, after earning the win in doubles, cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at Court 2. Junior
Jonathan Da Silva picked up another point for the Lopes at Court 4, winning 6-3, 6-3. Rosati rounded out his two-win day with a 6-3, 6-4 win at Court 5.
With the dual-match win secured, the three other singles matches were left unfinished. Sullwald was up 2-1 in his third set at Court 1 while Wekesa was in his second set at Court 3. Senior
Wyatt Anderson had just started his match, leading 2-0 at Court 6.
The Lopes will wrap up the road trip with a match against Montana on Sunday.
