The Grand Canyon men's tennis team opened a three-match homestand with a 6-0 shutout against UC Riverside on Tuesday.

The Lopes (2-2) earned their first home win of the season in dominant fashion, winning the doubles point and five singles matches.

Doubles started with three GCU wins. Sophomore
Paolo Rosati and graduate
Pablo Carretero Salvador finished first with a 6-1 win at Court 2. Meanwhile, senior
Wyatt Anderson and junior
Jonathan Da Silva clinched the point with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
At the top court, graduate
Gerhard Sullwald and sophomore
David Wekesa battled back from a 5-4 deficit and won 7-6 on a 7-2 tiebreaker.

With a 1-0 lead, the Lopes pushed their advantage in singles by winning the first set on all six courts. Anderson was the first to finish for his first singles win of the season at Court 6 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Meanwhile, Wekesa rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the second set to win 6-1, 6-3.

Leading 3-0, the dual-match win was clinched by Da Silva at Court 4 with a straight-set win. Moments later. Salvador and Sullwald wrapped up 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2 wins, respecitvely, at the top two positions.

At Court 5, GCU sophomore
Paolo Rosati was tied at 3-3 in his third set when it was left unfinished.

The Lopes will be back in action this weekend for home matches against Santa Clara on Friday at 4 p.m. and Utah State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
