The Grand Canyon track and field team is heading to Tucson to compete in Arizona's Willie Williams Classic Friday and Saturday.
The Lopes will compete with Utah State, Arizona, Northern Arizona, UTEP, Western New Mexico as well as other community colleges and club teams.
This is the second outdoor meet of the season, coming one week after a successful GCU Invitational opener.
Keira Christie-Galloway and
Marten Gasparini won WAC Women's Track Athlete of the week and Men's Field Athlete of the week honors after both having impressive openers and each making national marks.
Last year at the Willie Williams Classic, three Lopes had top-10 NCAA marks, including Gasparini and
Kelly Moodry.
The invitational begins on Friday with the collegiate events starting at 1:00 p.m. MST with the men's hammer throw kicking things off. Distance will then take place on Friday night, with races starting at 5:00 p.m. MST. The first field event on Saturday will be the men's pole vault, which gets started at 10:00 a.m. MST. Saturday running events will also start at 10:00 a.m. MST.
