TUCSON, Ariz. - The Grand Canyon track and field team finished this weekend with multiple Willie Williams Classic performances that are good building blocks for its outdoor season.
In the first away meet of the outdoor season, GCU head coach
Tom Flood said, "Overall, again we had another good early season meet in less-than-ideal conditions for a March meet in Arizona.
Kyle De Moica had a very nice double with two top-10 GCU all-time performances in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, respectively the No. 2 and No. 4 times in the WAC."
In the 100, De Moica had a time of 10.41 seconds and a time of 21.13 in the 200.
"
Keira Christie-Galloway again broke her school record in the 100-meter hurdles and had a nice double in the 200 meters on Friday evening," Flood said.
In the 100 hurdles, Christie-Galloway went 13.33 seconds.
GCU's
Derrick Nwagwu took the WAC lead in the triple jump with a leap of 15.45 meters, which is tied for the second-best jump in GCU history.
"Our women's 800-meter group had a good day, led by
Kelly Moodry's WAC-leading time of 2:08.94," Flood said. "We also had three other top-10 GCU performances from
Stefana Purkovic (2:12.25, No. 3 in the WAC),
Kaitlyn Kaye (2:14.35, No. 4 in the WAC) and
Therese Olshanski (2:14.61, No. 6 in the WAC)."
Brooke Skoog had two top-15 GCU times.
"Additionally, I thought
Brooke Skoog had a nice double this weekend in the 1,500 meters (4:39.50, No. 9 all-time at GCU) and 800 meters (2:16.68, No. 11 all-time at GCU)," Flood said.
Jarron Stevens tied the GCU freshman record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.22 (No. 3 in the WAC) and
Jack Schaumberg had a top-10 GCU time in the 400 meters with a time of 48.20.
"It's also nice to see
Jaida Olson get higher and higher each week in the pole vault," Flood said. "She cleared 3.83 meters this weekend and moved up both the WAC descending-order list and our GCU top-10 list."
Next up, the Lopes will travel to Texas for one of the biggest meets of the outdoor season.
"We will take a small group to the Texas Relays this upcoming week and continue to get better every day at practice," Flood said.
