ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Grand Canyon freshman golfer
Carly Strole captured medalist honors at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Monday at New Mexico Championship Golf Course.

Strole, a Millennium High graduate from Avondale, Arizona, was the only player in the field to go under par in each round. Strole's rounds of 69, 70 and 69 gave her an 8-under-par total and a three-shot victory over runner-up Camille Enright of Denver.
Strole played the final 10 holes at 4 under par to pull away from the field, which she led in par-five scoring (9 under par) and par-four scoring (4 under par). Her 54 holes included 10 birdies and a pair of eagles.
As a team, GCU finished in fourth place with an 872 total. No. 41 Denver won the event with an 864, followed by Pepperdine (867) and Washington (871). GCU finished ahead of notable programs, including No. 47 New Mexico (873), WAC rival New Mexico State (878) and No. 22 Arizona (879).
The Lopes were the only team to have two players finish under par for the tournament. Freshman
Lani Luafalealo fired rounds of 74, 68 and 72 to tie for fourth place at 2 under par. Luafalealo surged up the leaderboard with an amazing finish, carding birdies on four of her final five holes. She recorded a team-high 12 birdies and added an eagle for the Lopes.

Day 1
GCU completed the first day of the Dick McGuire Invitational with a pair of freshmen contending for medalist honors.
The freshman duo of Strole and Luafalealo combined for three under-par rounds to each land in the top 10 entering Monday's final round. Strole finished 36 holes with a total of 139 (5 under par) and is tied for second place and sits two strokes behind leader Niamh McSherry of Kansas State. Luafalealo fired a GCU low round of the day with a 68. Her total of 142 (2 under par) is tied for eighth place.
As a team, the Lopes finished the day in seventh place at 583. GCU finished a stroke ahead of the host, No. 47 New Mexico, and No. 22 Arizona.
Denver and Pepperdine are tied for the team lead at 577.Â
Other GCU scores included senior Sandstrom's 152, senior Patchana's 152, junior Fehringer's 156 and Linam's 158.
