The Grand Canyon women's golf team heads to the WAC Championship at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. Â Competition runs Monday through Wednesday, with 18 holes of golf per day and the champion earning a NCAA Regionals bid.Â
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- WAC AWARDS X5: The Lopes have shown how talented their roster is with five individuals capturing WAC Golfer of the Week this season. GCU's winners are senior Siripatsorn Patchana (Feb. 17), sophomore Carmen Belmonte (Mar. 17), junior Payton Fehringer (Mar. 24), freshman Lani Luafalealo (Apr. 7) and freshman Carly Strole (Apr. 14).
- 2017-18 WAC CHAMPS:Â GCU won the WAC Championship in 2018. Current Lopes who played on the championship team were current seniors Patchana, Carolina Sandstrom and Alexis Linam.
- RANKINGS: GCU enters the week ranked at No. 78 in the latest GolfStat rankings. New Mexico State has the top ranking (67) among WAC programs, ahead of Seattle U (121) and Utah Valley (169).
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
Participating teams in the WAC Championship will be GCU, Chicago State, New Mexico State, Seattle U, UT Rio Grande Valley and Utah Valley. California Baptist, Dixie State and Tarleton will have individuals competing for medalist honors.
LAST TIME OUT
GCU is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Dick McGuire Invitational. The Lopes finished ahead of ranked programs like No. 47 New Mexico and No. 22 Arizona. Strole captured medalist honors by playing the final 10 holes at 4 under par. Her rounds of 69, 70 and 69 gave her an 8-under-par total and a three-shot victory.

The winning team at the WAC Championship will earn an automatic berth into NCAA Regionals on May 10-12.
