Grand Canyon's women's swimming and diving team heads to Washington State and Idaho for a pair of dual meets this weekend. The Lopes will face the Cougars on Friday at noon at Gibbs Pool in Pullman, Washington. On Saturday, GCU will compete against the Vandals at UI Swim Center in Moscow, Idaho, with a start time of 10 a.m.

SCHEDULED EVENTS
On Friday, the order of events begin with the 200-yard medley relay and continue with the 1,000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 500 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and the 200 freestyle relay.
Saturday's events consist of 3-meter springboard, 200 medley relay, 1,000 freestyle, 200 freestyle,100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 1-meter springboard, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 400 individual medley and the 200 freestyle relay.
SPEEDY MARIA
GCU freshman
Maria Brunlehner claimed WAC Women's Swimmer of the Week after last weekend's performances against Air Force. She recorded the season's fastest time in the WAC in the 200 individual medley at two minutes, 6.9 seconds. A native of Mombasa, Kenya, Brunlehner also earned a top-three finish in the 100 breaststroke, posting a time of 1:06.22.
Brunlehner led the women to three relay wins against the Falcons. On the first day, Brunlehner pushed the team to victory in the last leg of the 400 freestyle (3:29.87), as she came from behind to hit the wall before the Falcons' Abby Turner. She also opened up the second day at Air Force with a win in the 400 medley relay, giving the Lopes a cushioned win (3:50.15). Brunlehner closed out the weekend with a final win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.76).
DIVING DUO HOLDS ZONE QUALIFYING SCORES
Freshman
Shiori Bak joined sophomore teammate
Lizzy Mcknight by qualified for NCAA zones in 1-meter and platform diving. Bak earned an NCAA zone qualifying score after winning her first event on platform last weekend with a score of 235.73 points against Air Force.
Mcknight, who qualified for NCAA zones in the 1-meter and platform, earned a total of 266.55 points in the 1-meter at LSU for her first NCAA zone qualifying score of the season. Mcknight won the 3-meter dive for her second NCAA zone qualifying score of 265.65 points, recorded against California Baptist at the Lancer Invite.
SCOUTING THE TEAMS
Cougars: Washington State is coming off a 169-91 loss to Pac-12 foe UCLA last weekend. Freshman Angela Di Palo was outstanding for the Cougars, winning the 200 freestyle in a season-best 1:50.38 and finishing second in the 100 freestyle. Defending Pac-12 champion Chloe Larson also earned a win in the 50 freestyle and has won all four of her races against conference opponents. Washington State is led by head coach Matt Leach, who is in his fourth season in Pullman.
Vandals: Idaho competed last weekend at Seattle U, where the Vandals picked up their first win of the season, 189-72. The Vandals won the first seven events of the meet to begin their dominating performance. Junior Alexa Teneyck, sophomores Zoe Froh and Ani Husaby and freshman Laura Fernandez-Rodriguez each won two individual events. Idaho is led by head coach Mark Sowa, who is in his 10th year with the Vandals. The divers are under the helm of head coach Jim Southerland in his sixth season at Idaho.
