Mose, Martinez team up for 5 top-3 finishes
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon swimming and diving team fell in men's and women's dual meets Saturday at Arizona State.
The Lopes fell to the hosts, who won the women's meet 224.5-74.5 and the men's meet 208-91 at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
GCU senior Elisa Corradi placed third in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:21.97.
Lopes senior Paula Martinez won the 200 butterfly, touching first in 1:58.85, and was also a member of the third-place women's 200 medley relay.
GCU freshman Sara Mose earned third-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (22.94) and 100 freestyle (50.98) and swam on the third-place women's 200 medley relay.
Sophomore Beth Young finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.45 and was part of the Lopes' third-place women's 200 medley relay.
GCU senior Marta Guasp recorded a second-place finish in the women's 200 backstroke, finishing in 1:59.88.
Sophomore teammate Taylor Stasny won the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.43 and competed on the Lopes' third-place women's 200 medley relay.
On the men's side, senior Alex Volkov won the 100 backstroke with a time of 46.90 and swam on the third-place 200 medley relay.
Senior teammate Mario Perez won the 200 butterfly, touching in 1:47.20, and was a member of the third-place 200 medley relay.
GCU junior Guillermo Carrey placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.89, finished third in the 100 freestyle at 44.29Â and competed on the third-place 200 medley relay.
Lopes senior Carter Dooling recorded a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (53.77), added a third-place result in the 200 breaststroke (2:01.02)Â and swam on the third-place 200 medley relay.
Junior teammate Joe Stephenson placed second in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:01.13.
GCU junior Asher Havenhill finished third in the 200 backstroke, touching in 1:49.23.
In diving, Lopes sophomore Brooke Woeslaw placed second on the 1-meter board with a score of 302.30.
Junior teammate Lucinda Harrison finished fifth on the 1-meter board, totaling 251.10 points.
Sophomore Omar Elsayed won the men's 3-meter board with a score of 429.45 and the 1-meter with a score of 359.18.Â
Junior Luke Struiksma placed third on the 3-meter board with a score of 368.85 with freshman Braeden Rasmus behind him in fifth at 205.65 points.
