Team turns attention to home finale for senior day
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Grand Canyon squads delivered a commanding performance on both sides of the meet against California Baptist. The Lopes claimed a 194.50–104.50 win in the men's meet and secured a 191.00–108.00 victory on the women's side.
On the women's side, GCU set the tone in the freestyle events.
Sara Mendoza won the 100 freestyle in 51.25 and followed with a victory in the 200 freestyle at 1:50.47.
Sara Mose captured first place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.67.
Katelyn Huffman added a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle, touching in 23.58.
Vivi Criscione dominated the distance races by winning the 1650 freestyle in 17:25.88.
Summer Dean finished second in the 1650 freestyle and placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:05.73.
Marta Guasp swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 backstroke in 56.20 and the 200 backstroke in 2:02.63.
Luna Torre Ayala earned a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.17.
Taylor Stasny claimed victories in both breaststroke events, winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.38 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.88.
Hailey Sears finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.51.
Elisa Corradi placed second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.81 and won the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.34.
Paula Martinez led the butterfly events, winning the 100 butterfly in 54.04 and the 200 butterfly in 2:02.05.
The GCU relay squads added key points with wins in the 400 freestyle relay at 3:23.48 and the 200 medley relay at 1:41.63.
The GCU men matched that dominance with consistent top finishes throughout the meet.
Mario Perez swept the sprint freestyle events, winning the 50 freestyle in 19.78 and the 100 freestyle in 45.11.
Trypp Duarte earned first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.51.
Jacob Pins captured the 500 freestyle title in 4:28.15 and finished second in the 1650 freestyle.
Alex Volkov won the 100 backstroke in 47.73.
Mohamed Mohamady claimed first place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:48.23.
Carter Dooling delivered a standout performance by winning the 100 breaststroke in 53.78, the 200 breaststroke in 1:58.65, and the 200 IM in 1:52.55.
Ian Hirota placed second in both the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke.
Tim Koza earned a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.02.
Omar Elsayed recorded a second-place finish in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 316.28.
The Lopes closed the meet with relay victories in the 400 freestyle relay at 2:58.55 and the 200 medley relay at 1:28.21.
Behind strong individual efforts and relay depth across all strokes and distances, Grand Canyon secured comprehensive team victories and capped a dominant showing against California Baptist.
