Senior posts top-40 finishes in both breaststroke events as Lopes compete at National Championships for first time since 2019
ATLANTA — Grand Canyon senior Carter Dooling returned the Lopes to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2019 and delivered a two-day showing against the nation's top breaststrokers at the 2026 NCAA Championships.
Dooling opened Thursday in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 53.00 to place 37th in the national field. In a tightly packed field, he finished ahead of Auburn's Maston Ballew while holding position against a group separated by fractions of a second across the middle of the standings.
On Friday, Dooling followed with a 31st-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching in 1:55.18. He placed ahead of Stanford's Go Nagaoka, Oakland's Chris Palvadre and Auburn's Maston Ballew, highlighting his consistency across both distances.
Dooling's NCAA appearance caps a senior season that produced an NCAA automatic qualifying time and helped return GCU to the national championship stage.
