Senior becomes 1st Lope to qualify for NCAAs since 2019

Grand Canyon senior Carter Dooling enters the NCAA Championships in Atlanta with momentum after securing qualifying standards in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. dooling headshot

Dooling posted a time of 52.37 seconds in the 100 breaststroke, finishing under the NCAA cut of 52.58 to add a second event to his championship slate. The Tucson native will compete in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries at 7:57 a.m. (Phoenix time) on Thursday before turning to the 200 breaststroke on Friday.

At the Big West Championships on Feb. 14, Dooling delivered a defining performance by winning the 200 breaststroke title in a lifetime-best 1 minute, 54.56 seconds.

The swim earned an automatic NCAA berth under a newly implemented qualification rule and positioned him as a contender in the event on the national stage.

A four-year member of the Lopes program, Dooling leads GCU back to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2019, when the program last scored team points at the national meet.

The NCAAs will be streamed live on ESPN+.
