GCU duo combined for 5 conference-best times, 7 event wins
Grand Canyon women's swimming earned two awards from the Mountain West this week after strong performances from sophomore Taylor Stasny and freshman Sara Mose.
Mountain West Swimmer of the Week honors went to Stasny after a standout weekend in Hawai'i.
The sophomore from Dyer, Indiana, won three individual events — the 100-yard individual medley, 200 individual medley and 200 breaststroke — and finished second in the 50 breaststroke, recording career-best times in each. She also swam on the winning 400 medley relay team and added second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and 200 medley relay.
Stasny set team records in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2 minutes, 12.1 seconds, and another with her 100 breaststroke relay splits. She also posted lifetime-best times in the 100 individual medley, 200 individual medley, 200 breaststroke and 50 breaststroke. Her weekend included four event wins (100 IM, 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and 400 medley relay) and top Mountain West marks in the 100 IM (55.64, fourth nationally), 200 IM (2:00.58) and 400 medley relay (3:43.53).
Mountain West Freshman of the Week recognition went to Mose.
Originally from Warsaw, Poland, Mose won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle with lifetime-best times in both events and contributed to the winning 400 medley relay in duals at Hawai'i. Mose set a pool record at Hawai'i in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.78. She holds the top Mountain West times in the 50 freestyle (22.78) and 100 freestyle (49.72), while collecting three event wins across the meet.
