The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming teams travel to Los Angeles for a meet at Loyola Marymount on Friday and Saturday. The women's team will compete in a quad meet against Loyola Marymount, Seattle U and San Diego State. The men's team will face Seattle U in a Friday meet at LMU's Burns Aquatic Center with a noon start.Â

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- SCHEDULED EVENTS: On Friday, the swimmers will participate in the 200-yard medley relay, 1,650 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay. Saturday's events consist of the 400 medley relay, 1,000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 400 IM, 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 500 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 freestyle relay, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 IM and 400 freestyle relay.
- DIVER OF THE WEEK: Sophomore Lizzy Mcknight earned WAC Diver of the Week for the second week in a row after her Saturday performance at the Lancer Diving Invite in Riverside, California. Mcknight earned two first-place finishes on the springboards at the California Baptist event that included divers from CBU, Air Force and UC San Diego.The Kent, Washington, native tied CBU's Kiree Lowe for first place in the 1-meter event with a score of 237.75. Mcknight also won the 3-meter dive for her second NCAA zone qualifying score of 265.65, which was 20 points ahead of runner-up and GCU teammate Abigail Erickson. Mcknight landed her first WAC Diver of the Week award this season for her performance at LSU on Oct. 9, when she earned a 1-meter NCAA zone qualifying score in GCU's opener.
- SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Alonso Carazo Barbero earned WAC Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 12. The Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Spain, native led the men's team with two first-place finishes against LSU in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:34.77) and the 200 breaststroke (2:04.02). He holds the 46th-fastest time in the nation for the 200 breaststroke and 55th for the 1,000 freestyle, according to CollegeSwimming.com. Carazo Barbero rounded out his run with a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:51.40, nearly a second away from victory.

SCOUTING THE TEAMS
Redhawks: Seattle U is led by head coach Craig Nisgor, who is in his 10th season with the Redhawks. In 2019-20, Nisgor led his team to 40 new top-10 performance times. He also guided Seattle U to five straight dual meet victories. The GCU men's team last competed against Seattle U in 2019, when the Lopes traveled to Seattle for a two-day meet. The women also faced Seattle U along with Loyola Marymount, where GCU defeated the Redhawks and the Lions that weekend. Seattle UÂ is heading to LMU after the teams earned second- and third-place finishes at the Logger Relays.

Lions: The Loyola Marymount women's team opened its season with a quick trip to Malibu for the Rodionoff Invitational. On the first day, the Lions fell 240-137 to Pepperdine on the first day and finished third with a score of 188 on the second day of the meet against Pepperdine and the University of San Diego. LMU is under the reins of experienced head coach Bonnie Adair, who enters her 19th season with the Redhawks.

Aztecs: San Diego State is coming off two second-place finishes at the two-day Chick-Fil-A invitational, where the Aztecs competed against California, UCLA, Fresno State, Washington State and San Jose State. The Aztecs opened the season with a pair of wins against San Diego and Pepperdine, extending their dual-met streak to 29 straight wins. SDSU is led by head coach Mike Shrader in his 14th season. Shrader led the Aztecs to back-to-back Mountain West Conference championships in 2019 and 2020.

GCU will take a week off before traveling to Colorado for a meet with Air Force on Nov. 5-6.
