The Grand Canyon women's tennis team lost 4-3 to Colorado State at GCU Tennis Facility on Sunday.

The Lopes and Rams spilt the six singles matches with the doubles point deciding the Colorado State win.

In doubles, GCU won the first match at No. 3 with juniorsÂ
Ludovica Infantino and
Autum Prudhomme earning a 6-2 win. At No. 2, freshman
Natasha Puehse and sophomore
Jana Weiss trailed 4-1 but cut the lead to 4-3 before the Rams won two of the final three games for a 6-4 victory. At No. 1, seniors
Emilia Occhipinti and
Celina Buhr held a 5-3 advantage but lost the final four games to give the Rams the doubles point.

In singles, GCU came back to take three of the first four matches. Infantino started things off with a dominant 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5, followed by a straight-set win by Puehse at No. 2.

Colorado State won at No. 3, but Occhipinti countered with a 6-0, 6-7, 6-3 win at No. 1 to give the Lopes a 3-2 lead with two singles matches left to play.

Colorado State won in three sets at No. 6 to level the score and bring the match down to the singles match at No. 4. Weiss and CSU's Alyssa Grijalva were locked in a tight match with Weiss taking the first set 6-3 and Grijalva winning the second set 7-5. In the third set, Grijalva clinched the dueal with a 6-4 third-set win that gave the Rams their first win of the season.

The GCU women will enjoy next weekend off and head to Honolulu for matchups against Hawaii and San Diego State on Feb. 27-28.
