PHOENIX, Ariz. – Grand Canyon closed out Senior Day in style on Thursday afternoon, defeating Colorado State 4-1 at the GCU Tennis Facility behind a dominant singles performance after the Rams claimed the doubles point.

Colorado State took the early 1-0 lead by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, despite the Lopes getting a strong 6-3 victory from sophomore

With doubles settled, GCU responded emphatically in singles by taking four straight completed courts to secure the dual.

Senior Deaifi sparked the comeback with an emotional victory on Court 4. After getting the point to secure her match the senior from Irvine, California broke into tears before embracing her parents.

"The program has meant the world to me and it has made me who I am today on and off the court," said Deaifi, "the support of this program has been unreal with unconditional love nonstop, I could not be more grateful for my time here at GCU."

Gala Arangio took another victory on Court 2 winning 6-2, 6-2 securing her 20th career singles victory.

The freshman duo of Amalia Suciu and
Hams Metwally were able to clinch the win for the Lopes on their respective courts. Suciu battled to a 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker), 6-1 victory while Metwally clinched the match with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory.

"We had a shaky start, but we were able to compete well and find our level as the match went on" said GCU head coach Dane Vorster, Dani's competitive spirit and fight for her team will be remembered and help take our team further into the post season one last time."

The Lopes head to Wyoming to take on the Cowboys this Sunday in a quick turnaround. They currently sit in sixth in the Mountain West standings as they head into postseason play.
