GCU continues its fall season at San Diego State

The Grand Canyon men's tennis team will continue the fall season this weekend at the Aztec Fall Invitational at San Diego State. Competition starts on Friday and will wrap up Sunday.

Along with facing the Aztecs, the Lopes will compete against players from Arizona, UCLA, UC Irvine, Loyola Marymount, San Diego, UC San Diego and San Diego Christian.

The team last competed on Sept. 20-22 at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson. The Lopes were led by senior Valentin Lang, who advanced to the final of the top flight by starting the weekend with three straight wins. Freshman Can Franke also played well with three singles wins in the second flight.

Returners Jakub Novak, a sophomore, and Freddie Grant, a junior, each had a pair of singles wins in the top two singles flights.

In doubles, Lang and Novak won a pair of matches in the top doubles flight over pairs from Northern Colorado and New Mexico.
