Lopes land pair in top 10 at Kapolei
KAPOLEI, Hawaii – The Grand Canyon women's golf team ended its fall season by moving into a fifth-place tie Wednesday at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at Kapolei Golf Course.
GCU finished strong as one of only two teams to shoot under par in its final round.
Lopes junior Siripatsorn Patchana led the final-round assault with a 2-under-par 70 to tie for fourth place with a 2-under-par total of 213. She recorded top-10 finishes in three of four fall tournaments.
GCU also received strong final-round scores from sophomore Payton Fehringer (72), freshman Carmen Belmonte (72) and senior Carolina Sandstrom (72) while junior Alexis Jones (74) played her best round of the tournament.
Fehringer tied for 10th place with a 216 total. Belmonte tied for 25th place in the 80-player field.
Sacramento State won the event, edging out Cal Poly and BYU. GCU finished in a tie for fifth place 46th-ranked College of Charleston.
Day 2 recap
GCU improved on its first-round team score by three shots but slid down three slots in the 14-team field on Tuesday. The Lopes were just four shots behind fourth-place BYU.
The Lopes received a pair of sub-par rounds from Patchana and Fehringer. The GCU duo each shot 2-under-par rounds of 70.
Patchana ended the day in a tie for sixth place, while Fehringer was alone in 12th place.
Other GCU scores included Belmonte with a 75 (tied for 31st), Sandstrom with a 78 (tied for 42nd) and Jones with a 79 (tied for 67th).
