GCU completes first day at Southern Dunes

The Grand Canyon women's golf team completed the first and second rounds of the Cowgirl Classic at Southern Dunes in Maricopa, Ariz. The Lopes shot rounds of 320 and 316 on Thursday.
UC Irvine leads the event after the first day with a 586 total, two shots better than Sacramento State.
GCU was led by Amy Ruelas with rounds of 78 and 77 from the No. 5 position. Ruelas enters the final round in 48th place.
Kylie Fong shot rounds of 81 and 76, with the 76 resulting as the best round of the day for GCU.
Deanna Salvatori shot rounds of 81 and 77 while Carolina Sandstrom finished with 81 and 86. Courtney Vogel came in with rounds of 80 and 88.
The first day co-leaders are Jakeishya Le of UC Riverside and Julia Becker of Sacramento State with 142 totals.
The final round will take place on Friday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
