The Grand Canyon men's and women's track & field teams are prepared to compete in the Triton Invitational for the first time in program history. The meet will be hosted by UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif. on April 21-22.
Located in the beautiful La Jolla, Calif., the meet will take place at the Triton Track & Field Stadium. The first events, hammer, discus and pole vault prelims will begin on Friday, April 21. The rest of the events will conclude on Saturday, April 22.
Just two meets away from the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, the Lopes hope to continue to record high level marks and times. During a weekend full of meets,
the Lopes recorded three new GCU records and several top WAC performances just the week before.
Anna Henry got things started for the Lopes after she broke her own program record in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:57.89. Shortly after
Mariah Montoya also broke her previous school record in the 10000m run with a time of 37:04.78. On the men's side,
Sam Proctor would follow by breaking a four-year old school record by nearly 21 seconds with a time of 29:56.75 in the 10000m run.
Next up, the Lopes will set out for the Steve Scott Invitational from Friday, April 28 to Saturday, April 29 in preparation of the WAC Outdoor Championships.Â
