Salvatori leads Lopes on first day of HBU Husky Invite

The Grand Canyon women's golf team completed day one at the HBU Husky Invitational on Monday afternoon in Sugar Land, Texas.
With an improved second round (third best second round of the day), the Lopes are in sixth place in the 13-team field. GCU saw a 15-shot improvement in the second round of the invite.
The Lopes struggled in the first round with one under-80 score, led by Deanna Salvatori's 76, which was good for 12th place after the first 18 holes. Courtney Vogel shot a first-round 80 while Carolina Sandstrom came in with an 81.
In the second round, Salvatori led the Lopes with a 75, followed by 77's from Kylie Fong and Amy Ruelas.Â
The final round will take place tomorrow with 18 holes at the tournament hosted by Houston Baptist.
