LOS ANGELES -- The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming and diving team solidified day one of their dual meet on the road with sweeping victories against Seattle and Loyola Marymount. The men's team defeated the Redhawks 124-81 while the women's team dominated 140-64. The women's team also competed against the Lions and won 148-54.
The men and women both won eight of the own events, including all four relays. Samiha Mohsen and
Estela Davis Ortiz each won two individual events. On the men's side, Daniil Antipov had two individual wins of his own.
Mohsen placed first in the 50 (23.87) and 100 yard freestyle (52.56) while Davis Ortiz was victorious in the 400 yard IM (4:26.86) and 100 yard backstroke (57.05). The women also swept the top three spots in the 100 yard breaststroke, kicked off by
Alyssa Christianson with a time of 1:06.36 and closely followed by
Marina McInelly (1:06.44) and Vangelina Draganova (1:07.03).
Antipov led with his two first place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (1:40.63) and 100 yard butterfly (49.63). Bogdan Plavin shined in the 50 yard freestyle (21.28) while Wiktor Jaszczak picked up some points for the Lopes in the long distance swims with his time of 4:42.05 in the 500 yard freestyle.
The Lopes will conclude their dual meet on Saturday October 21 as they look to continue their success from day one.
