| This will be the first time that first year head coach Lauren Giesecke will lead her squad to the WAC Championship. Giesecke has done an exceptional job of leading the program in the right direction with the help of first year assistant coach Kelli Bowers. The Lopes also competed in one dual match this year, against Wyoming at the GCU Golf Course. In the match play format, GCU was able to win five of the seven groups led by Kylie Fong as she recorded the lowest round on the day, shooting a 72. | |
| The tournament will take place over a three day span, April 22-24 in Blaine, Wash. which is on the coast, just south of the Canadian border. Designed by Arnold Palmer, Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club is Washington's #7 public course as rated by Golfweek, 2012. This 7,005-yard tree-lined masterpiece allows golfers to relax and enjoy nature at its best. Among its golfing challenges are water in play on five holes and 67 strategically placed bunkers. The fairways are rolling and generous, with fast and challenging greens. Last year the WAC Championship took place at the Wigwam Golf Club, located in Litchfield Park, Ariz. | |
| The Lopes competed in four tournaments this season starting with the first ever GCU Invitational at the brand new GCU Golf Course. The Lopes finished in sixth place at the GCU Invitational, the highest finish this spring. The Lopes also competed in the Fresno State Classic, the Bearcats Spring Classic and the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. | |
| Along with Grand Canyon, seven other teams will be competing at the WAC Championship. Last year, New Mexico State took home first place as a team, along with the individual title as Viviana Macias shot +8 for first place. The Aggies are the two-time defending WAC Champion and were picked to finish first this season by the coaches in conference. | |
| Charatta Thongbai finished with the highest ranking from a player this season. Thongbai placed 10th at the GCU Invitational shooting 78, 74, 79 in three rounds, to go +18 for the tournament. |
